Artist: Tribe Royal
Single: My Kind of Girl
From: Ottawa
We’re always thrilled to get emails from Canadian indie bands, but one of our latest messages from the Tribe Royal came at a perfect time! They’ll be performing tonight at The Hideout in Toronto as apart of Indie Week. Songwriters and guitarists Terry O’Brien and Chris Kerwin formed the band in 2013 with drummer Matt Robillard, along with bassists Bram Al-Najjar. They have since opened for Sam Roberts Band when he came to Ottawa Bluesfest a few years ago, Neon Dreams, and performed at the world’s largest outdoor festival, Summerfest in downtown Milwaukee.
Tribe Royal has a catalogue so far that pays tribute to some of the great rockers in the 1960s, to bands like the Eagles, and icons like Tom Petty. They’ve even spent some time in Muscle Shoals, Alabama recording.
“My Kind of Girl” was recorded in Montreal with producer Bill Hill, who worked on April Wine’s debut in 1971.
Keep an eye out for more music! They will be releasing another single on November 22 called “Sippin on Whiskey,” which they performed live during shows in France and Sweden earlier this year.
