You may remember the classic skit from the early days of Saturday Night Live…or if you don’t, you’ve likely seen it on highlights shows. One of those on-going skits from the original cast of Not Ready for Premier Time Players involved Bill Murray, John Belushi and Dan Akroyd flipping burgers and taking orders while shouting “Cheezborger, cheezborger, cheezborger!” and “No Coke … Pepsi!”
That skit was inspired by a real-life restaurant in Chicago. However, the Billy Goat Tavern might close its doors due to hardships brought on by the Coronavirus. Tavern owners say they’ve seen their income dry up because of stay-at-home orders and insurance won’t cover the losses. An attorney for the tavern is suing the insurance companies to force them to pay, but that is still pending. It’ll be sad if there are no more ‘Cheeseborgers’ at the Billy Goat Tavern. Check the YouTube clip below featuring that famous SNL skit and also the Billy Goat Tavern.
In the meantime, support our locally-owned restaurants! With many offering take out and/or delivery services, let’s make this weekend the one to show some extra support to our own local eateries!
