Local high school students in Prince Edward County have a chance to work with local officials as apart of their community hours.
High school students need 40 community hours to reach the requirements of their diploma.
This week, council approved a motion to have the municipality team up with the Youth Council Coalition of Canada.
Prince Edward County is the first municipality in eastern Ontario to team up as apart of YCC’S hour-to-hour challenge.
Students can work with municipal leaders to learn more about what goes on in their local community.
Catalina Blumenberg, clerk with Prince Edward County, suggested to colleagues this week some things that they can work on with students.
“Some of you will just ask that the students watch the meetings and then you could email ‘send me three things you learned about the meeting’. Some other ideas are reading the agenda together, perhaps you ask them to research a topic that’s upcoming on the agenda, so they review the agenda, you ask that they research the topic, maybe you have a question they can answer or find the answer for you,” said Blumenberg.
