Please note we are not currently taking appointments for COVID-19 vaccine immunizations and there is no wait list for the vaccine – please see below for update.
UPDATED – Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021
What activities have taken place over the past few weeks?
We continue to roll out Phase 1 of the HPEPH COVID-19 Vaccine Roll Out Plan as vaccines become available.
- The first COVID-19 vaccine doses have now been provided to all residents in local Long-Term Care Homes (LTCHs) and High-Risk Retirement Homes (HR RHs). These clinics were completed in partnership with local health care providers.
- First COVID-19 vaccine doses were recently completed at the Tyendinaga Elders Lodge.
- A total of 1483 individuals have received a vaccine.
For a daily update of the number of vaccines that have been administered by HPEPH staff, visit our COVID 19 Dashboard.
What activities are coming up?
- We will continue to work with local hospitals, paramedic services and other health care providers on the implementation of Phase 1 and preparation for Phase 2 of the HPEPH COVID-19 Vaccine Roll Out Plan. Phase 1 immunization will be prioritized as follows:
Immediate priority for first-dose vaccination:
- Residents, staff and essential caregivers in long term care homes, high-risk retirement homes and First Nations elder care homes.
- Alternative level of care patients in hospitals who have a confirmed admission to a long-term care home, retirement home or other congregate care home for seniors.
- Highest Priority health care workers, followed by Very High Priority health care workers, in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidance on Health Care Worker Prioritization.
- Indigenous adults in northern remote and higher risk communities (including on-reserve and urban communities).
Next priority for first-dose vaccination:
- Adults 80 years of age and older.
- Staff, residents and caregivers in retirement homes and other congregate care settings for seniors (e.g., assisted living).
- Health care workers in the High Priority level, and in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidance on Health Care Worker Prioritization.
- All Indigenous adults.
- Adult recipients of chronic home care.
To move vaccination plans forward in our region, over the coming weeks,
- Together with community partners, we will continue to implement mobile clinics on-site at local LTCHs and HR RHs for second doses of COVID-19 vaccines over the next few weeks.
- While exact timelines for completion of the second round of vaccines for LTC residents are dependent on vaccine availability and distribution, LTCH and HR RH residents will be prioritized to ensure they receive the second dose within the recommended time frame.
- We continue to plan and secure locations in preparation for public immunization clinics (based on provincial priorities and vaccine availability).
What can I do right now?
- Continue to follow COVID precautions. This is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as we wait for the majority of residents to receive their vaccines. Wear a mask (three layers with a filter, if possible), keep the 2m/6ft distance from others and avoid close contact with anyone outside of your household.
- Stay home if you are not feeling well or have any symptoms of COVID-19 (even mild). Get tested and self-isolate while you wait for results. Ensure you have a negative test result before having close contact with others.
- Ensure your other immunizations are up to date – contact your primary care provider to check.
- Please be patient. It will take time for COVID-19 vaccines to be distributed to everyone in the community. Each group will be specifically identified and notified in advance to plan for vaccination. Information will be posted on our website, social media, shared with local media, and distributed through health care and community partners – you won’t be missed!”
