The City of Quinte West came to the rescue of the Quinte Humane Society’s urgent need to remove the animals, volunteers and staff from the run down and overcrowded building on Avonlough Road.
Monday evening, Quinte West council approved to advance a 0.78 per cent interest loan of up to a maximum of $1 million to guarantee half of the remaining financing needed for QHS to enter into a collective agreement with the design-builder to immediately begin the first phase – Animal Care and Adoption Centre.
Due to the urgent need for relocating QHS, and the lack of action from the federal and provincial governments, the Quinte Humane Society has made the decision to move forward with a 3-phase approach, that includes: Phase1: Animal Care and Adoption Centre and Mobile Clinic (12,000 sq ft -$5 million budget); Phase2: Community Centre (2,500 sq ft – dollars to be determined); Phase3: On-site Medical Clinic (2,000 sq ft – dollars to be determined.
