The Ontario government has announced they are expanding who will be eligible for a COVID-19 shot, under the vaccine rollout plan.

In other news from Queen’s Park, the government says that in the first two weeks of May, they will be reallocated half of the province’s supply to hotspots. Distribution based on population will go back into practice the week of May 17th. Starting tomorrow, all Ontario residents who are 55 and older, will be able to book a COVID-19 appointment on the province’s portal or through the vaccine hotline. Individual with high-risk health conditions will be able to access a shot at a mass vaccination centre on Monday.
The province’s sciences advisers revealed to that they think the third wave of the pandemic has crested. However, officials note that more limits need to be placed on essential workplaces, as cases numbers continue to climb in hot spots like Toronto and Peel.
The number of people being infected in workplaces, and treated in ICUs remains very high. The top doctors say that 90 per cent of the new cases being reported now are due to variants of concern.
Local Updates:
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is reporting a dozen new cases of COVID-19 today, and eight more recoveries. There are now a total of 87 active COVID-19 cases, a number that has been going up in the last few days.
There are 21 people with the virus in hospital, with eight in ICU and four on a ventilator. One outbreak in Belleville has been declared over today, bringing the region back down to a total of four active outbreaks. A total of 58,712 vaccine doses have been administered, with 32 per cent of the population with their first dose and 2 per cent fully vaccinated.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health is reporting 11 new cases today, for a total of 81 active COVID-19 cases. There are two local people in hospital with the virus, two in ICU and one on a ventilator.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has identified eight new infections in Northumberland, for a total of 49 active cases in that county.
