While the pandemic continues, the situation around international students arriving in Canada continues to draw significant attention this week.
The third wave of the pandemic has brought along with it, powerful COVID-19 variants that have taken many countries by surprise, including here in Canada.
Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford says that he would like to see the federal government move with tighter restrictions, and not allow any international students into the country to study. He says that this is due to the evolving COVID-19 situation here at home, and abroad. Ford has called on Ottawa to also put in the hotel quarantine system at land borders as some people are finding loopholes.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau adds that he is not considering banning international students entering Canada, at this point.
However, Trudeau says he is willing to work “more narrowly” with Ontario.
Last week the country suspended all flights from India and Pakistan.
