Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith has a new job with the Doug Ford government. Smith is now the Minister of Energy, removing him from his role as minister of Children, Community and Social Services. That portfolio will now be assumed by Merrilee Fullerton. The moves were part of a cabinet shuffle announced by Premier Doug Ford Friday afternoon.
Others caught up in the shakeup include former Finance Minister Rob Phillips, who’ll take over as Minister off Long Term Care. He was forced to resign as Finance Minister after travelling to the Caribbean last December. David Piccini is the new Environment Minister.
In all, five ministers were dumped, while eight have been shuffled into new rolls. Key ministries such as Finance, Health, Education as well as the Attorney General and Solicitor General positions were left untouched.
The move comes less than a year before the next provincial election.
