There are new COVID-19 cases being reported across the Quinte region as we head into the long weekend.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has announced two new cases today, and two more recoveries. Both of the new cases are in Quinte West. One is listed as local transmission, and the origin of the other case is still pending.
That brings the region to a total of three active COVID-19 cases between the two counties.
Local health officials add that 81 per cent of residents 12 and older have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with 65 per cent are fully vaccinated.
HPEPH continues to encourage people to get vaccinated as soon as possible in time for school.
“While provincial guidance to support a safe return to school has yet to be released, it is expected that the protection achieved through full vaccination will enable both students and teachers to continue to participate in in-person learning in situations where they may have previously been required to isolate. By avoiding or delaying vaccination, you are putting yourself – and those around you – at unnecessary risk. All eligible individuals are encouraged to take this important step to help end the pandemic and to ensure the coming months can be as safe and normal, as possible,” said Dr. Piotr Oglaza, Medical Officer of Health and CEO at HPEPH.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported five new infections in Northumberland County. There are a total of seven active cases in that county.
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington health officials have announced one new case and one more recovery, for a total of one current active COVID-19 case.
Over to Ottawa, federal health officials are warning that the county could be on the brink of a fourth wave of the virus, as the Delta variant continues to be a source of concern.
