Belleville Police have provided an update about the incident this morning that shut down a busy intersection of North Front Street.
Officers responded to reports of a vehicle hitting the Adecco building around 4:50 am, across from Metro.
When officers arrived they found a man on the road with a knife. Police had to use a Conducted Energy Device on the man, after he refused to cooperate. James Thomson of Belleville has been taken into custody without injury.
Investigators believe that before this all happened, a man pulled up in a vehicle to use the bank machine on the corner of North Front and College Street. He left his vehicle running, and at that time police allege that Thomson went into the vehicle and took off. Police add that the man went to try to stop Thomson, but was dragged as the vehicle eventually went into the building.
The man who was dragged suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics.
Belleville Police add that when the vehicle hit the building, two witnesses went to assist but they were allegedly stabbed by Thomson with a knife.
One man was treated for stab wounds in hospital, while the other male victim was treated for minor injuries by paramedics.
Thomson, who is 30 years old, is charged with assault with a weapon, robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He is being held for a bail hearing today.
While the investigation continues, anyone who witnesses the incident is asked to contact Detective Constable Adam Donaldson at 613-966-0882 Ext. 4147 or by email at adonaldson@police.belleville.on.ca. People can also submit information to Quinte Crimestoppers.
