It has been a busy week here in the Quinte region!
Our first guest that joined us on the show this week was Catherine MacDonald. She is a Registered Nurse and Substance and Harm Reduction Coordinator with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit. She joined us to talk about the new Early Warning System Opioid Dashboard.
The tool will provide people with an insight as to the number of suspected and confirmed overdoses in the region.
Data from the Public Health Ontario for opioid-related deaths shows 21 people died of an overdose in HKPR from April 2019 to March 2021. A total of 41 people died between April 2020 to March 2021.
MacDonald also shared with us more the importance of having a Naloxone kit and calling the National Overdose Response Service (NORS) if you are using.
Keeping with our theme about raising awareness, we also focused back here in Belleville as the Terry Fox Run is going virtual on Sunday.
Volunteer Coordinator Vicki Samaras joined us for a chat about 13 minutes into the full episode.
Take a listen!
