The owner of Signal Brewery in Corbyville has passed away.
Richard Courneyea’s daughter shared the news on Facebook.
She noted that he died this morning at 9 a.m.
Courneyea was involved with a number of organizations like the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, BDIA, Belleville Agricultural Society and Bay of Quinte tourism.
Before opening the brewery, he owned a men’s clothing store for over 20 years.
He ran to become the mayor of Belleville in 2014.
The flag at Belleville’s City Hall has been lowered in his memory.
“Richard’s passing is a huge loss to our community and he will be dearly missed by so many. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk, in a statement.
The flag will be lowered until Friday.
