Several Rotary clubs across the Quinte region have donated technology to a remote community.
The Rotary Club of Belleville announced the donation in a statement today.
Rotarians note that they have been working with residents up in Nibinamik First Nation for a few years.
The fly-in community is located about 490 km northeast of Thunder Bay. Driving their from Thunder Bay works out to be a 22 hour trip.
Rotarians received a request for a few laptops at the Nibinamik Education Centre (Summer Beaver School). In a statement, the Rotary Club of Belleville adds that the community has had internet since the summer and teachers are trying to incorporate more technology into the classroom.
The request for one or two laptops eventually resulted in over 80 laptops being donated by a five local Rotary Clubs, including branches in Belleville, Wellington, Trenton and Kingston.
The Rotary clubs were able to ship a total of 82 laptops, seven tablets, five Chromebooks, five iPads, and three cellphones.
