Loyalist College grad Mike Shoreman recently joined us in the studio as apart of “Campus Conversations.”
The mental health advocate and paddleboarder was on campus this spring to talk to students in the Advertising & Marketing Communications – Creative Design program. Shoreman graduated from that program in 2006.
He is now raising awareness about mental health after his own struggles. Shoreman became suddenly sick very quickly in 2018 and was diagnosed with a neurological condition called Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (RHS). He went from leading a very active life as a professional paddleboarder and entrepreneur to having to learn to walk again.
Since coming out of a dark period, he has teamed up with the mental health group called Jack.org. The organization raises awareness about youth mental health.
Last summer, Shoreman made national headlines for paddleboarding across Lake Ontario to Rochester, New York.
This summer he wants to cross all the Great Lakes. Loyalist College students in the Advertising & Marketing Communications – Creative Design program have been pitching ideas to him about ways to get the word out.
