Construction is set to start at the new Belleville fairgrounds site.
Local officials joined members of the Belleville Agricultural Society for a sod-turning ceremony this morning at the site north of Black Diamond Road.
The 30 acres is located east of Highway 37 and will serve as the new home for the fairgrounds.
Plans are in place to extend municipal services out. A new building will allow for the Belleville Agricultural Society to host events year round.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for both the City of Belleville and the Belleville Agricultural Society. We were so pleased to reach the initial agreement for this relocation in the fall of 2020 and now, this sod-turning ceremony gives a feeling of reality to all these plans. We know this new development will be a welcome addition to our region,” said Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk, in a statement released by the City.
