The Kingston Police and OPP have announced that a man is facing 76 charges in connection to a sexual assault investigation.
Kingston Police note in a statement today, that they started a joint investigation called Project Shamrock in January. Officers initially received reports about a person luring victims through social media.
Police in Kingston have been investigating with members of Ottawa and Peterborough Police Services along with the OPP.
Kingston Police have announced that Michael Mark Haaima from Kingston has been arrested and charged. The 38-year-old is facing a total of 76 charges, including 18 counts of sexual assault, five counts of unlawfully accessing child pornography, and four counts of forcible confinement. Haaima is being held in custody.
Police have initially identified and supported ten victims. Kingston Police note that more victims have since been found.
“The success of Project Shamrock is an important message that as a policing community, we continue to be committed to investigating and holding those that commit these predatory crimes accountable. We will work tirelessly to help reduce victimization and protect the most vulnerable in our communities. I wish to thank our policing partners for their unwavering dedication and ongoing work in this important area,” said Kingston Police Chief Antje McNeely, in a statement.
Kingston Police note that they suspect there may be other victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122, Kingston Police or their local police.
“If you or someone you know may be a victim of these crimes, call 9-1-1 immediately,” concluded police in a statement.
