Karen Sharpe is back on Quinte West City Council.
She will fill the vacant seat left by Councillor Terry Cassidy, who died last month.
The City of Quinte West has announced that Sharpe takes office today. She was on Council during the last term, and ran to become Mayor in the fall. Sharpe will be on Council for the rest of the term as a Councillor for the Sidney Ward.
Council decided earlier this month, to ask Karen Sharpe to come back. The move came after options were rejected to hold a by-election, and have the next eligible candidate serve, which would be former Councillor Al Dewitt.
In a statement to 91X this morning, Sharpe says that she would have run in the by-election.
“Given the election cost and the proposed 2023 draft budget increase, I understand Council’s decision not to proceed with a by-election,” added Sharpe.
Quinte West Council will hold a Special Council Meeting tonight at 6 p.m. to discuss the Official Plan. The meeting will be live streamed on the City’s Youtube Channel.
