It should be a smooth commute today for drivers who rely on Highway 401 in the region.
The highway is back open to traffic in both directions from County Road 49 and Shannonville Road exits. The OPP announced that the stretch of the highway was back open just before midnight.
Emergency crews were called to the three vehicle collision around 6:30 a.m. yesterday. Police say that two-tractor trailers and a passenger vehicle were involved. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
One westbound lane was open to traffic around 12:30 p.m. The rest of the road was closed, prompting a slow commute on the detour route of Highway 2.
Police continue to investigate and are asking any witnesses or those with dash cam footage to come forward.
