As many of us gather with friends and family to mark the Easter long weekend, several community groups are looking to find volunteers.
Here is the Volunteer Information Quinte Update for this week:
- YourTV Quinte (Cogeco) is looking for people to help cover a variety of events and sports games. Volunteers with YourTV Quinte assist with set up, tear down, cameras and production. This is an ideal place if you have worked in the industry, or are looking to get into it. It’s also a great way for students to explore the career and pick up some new skills. Training is provided on site.
- Victim Services is looking for people to be on call. Volunteers would assist people in the Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington Counties. They would provide on scene emotional and practical assistance and referral others in need to community agencies. Online and in-person training is provided.
- Gleaners Food Bank is looking for help with distributing food hampers in the community. An ideal candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds. Safety protocols are in place.
- The National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton is looking for people to help plan and organize fundraising events on behalf of their board of directors. Tasks would include working on collecting donations and canvassing in the community.
- The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for volunteers to help with their Good Food Box program across the region. Volunteers must be able to lift over 50 pounds as they drive the boxes across the region. The time commitment is the second and fourth Tuesday of every month.
- The Alzheimer’s Society of Hastings Prince Edward is looking for folks who enjoy music. They need some assistance in the Music for Me program. The program needs two people to assist staff with loading music on iPod shuffles and computers for clients.
- The ROC Youth Centre in Prince Edward County continues to offer a variety of programs weekdays for students. They run most programs after school between 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 pm. They are looking for some volunteers to help mentor and supervise young students in our community. Training and orientation provided.
- VON Hastings Northumberland Prince Edward is looking for drivers who can deliver hot meals to clients in the Trenton and Frankford area. The time commitment can be flexible. Drivers are needed for about an hour and a half to two and a half hours each time. Meals are delivered weekdays.
- If you like a good bingo game at the Lions Club in Belleville, Volunteer Information Quinte needs you! VIQ is looking for help with running their charity bingo games. Matinee and main bingo slots are available. You have to be 16 and older to volunteer for this fun job.
- If you are passionate about health and wellness, the team at Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre could use your help with running some programs and activities. The community-based primary health organization is looking for some programming ideas around nutrition, physical activity, and social well-being.
- The Regent Theatre located in Picton is looking for people to help out with some odd jobs. It can be anything from being an usher to helping out with ticket sales. High school students are welcome to apply!
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
