The Quinte region is waking up to the worst air quality we’ve seen in recent years, for the second day in a row.
Belleville is nearing the top of the Air Quality Index Scale.
Widespread smoke has blanketed the region due to wildfires in northern Ontario and Quebec.
Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has announced today that local students will be kept inside as all outdoor activities have been cancelled. Northumberland County is the latest area to be under a total burn ban. Belleville, Quinte West and Prince Edward County issues bans earlier this week.
Health officials are encouraging people to stay inside as much as possible, run an air purifier, and wear an N95 mask if you venture out.
There are over 400 wildfires across the country today. Over 950 international wildfires are on the ground across Canada as the National Preparedness Level is at five. Calls continue for more assistance as resources are being stretched.
