91X has been highlighting indigenous music throughout the day, in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Aysanabee, Somebody Else
- The Oji-Cree artist has been longlisted for a Polaris Music Prize this year. He released his debut album last year.
Adrian Sutherland – Better
- The roots rock artist is the founder of the all-Cree band, Midnight Shine. His debut solo album, “When The Magic Hits,” was nominated for a JUNO last year.
- He will be performing at Ottawa Bluesfest next month.
Buffy Sainte-Marie, It’s My Way
- The song first appeared on her debut album in 1964. She recorded it again as apart of her 2015 Polaris Prize winning album, “Power In The Blood.”
Cale Crowe, A Distance
- He is from the Alderville First Nation and will be performing at a restaurant in Cobourg tomorrow.
- This single was released in 2020.
Chubby Cree – Rock Your World
- Teenager Noah Green teamed up with his grandmother for this tune.
- The Edmonton group has gone viral since.
Crown Lands – The Shadow & Lady of the Lake
- Both tunes from the Oshawa duo today are from their latest album, “Fearless.”
Digging Roots – Cut My Hair
- The group will be performing in Kingston tonight, and next month at Ottawa Bluesfest
- Digging Roots won the Contemporary Indigenous Group of the Year Award at the JUNOs this year.
Drives The Common Man, Annie
- Andrew Stevens is from London, Ontario. He lit up the Indigenous Music Countdown a few years ago with his debut single, “Night Vision.”
DJ Shub, Calling All Dancers
- He won a JUNO award last year.
- This is from his album, “War Club.”
Hazely – Find Your Way
- This song has appeared on a variety of charts this week.
- Hazely is leans towards the R&B / pop side.
Hayley Wallis, Not That Serious
- She has been featured on the Indigenous Music Countdown.
- Her latest album is about embracing our mental health and change.
Jayli Wolf, Holding On
- This is the first single from her upcoming project, out later this summer.
Julien Taylor, Seeds
- His latest album, “Beyond The Reservoir” has been nominated for a Polaris Music Prize.
Leela Gilday, Rolling Thunder
- Leela Gilday, from the Northwest Territories, was named the Indigenous Artist of the Year at the JUNO awards in 2021.
- This song is from her album, “North Star Calling.”
Logan Staats, Six Miles
- The Mohawk artist and land defender won the first season of CTV’s music show “The Launch” in 2018.
- This song is from his latest album, “A Light In The Attic.”
Miesha and the Spanks – So Mad
- Miesha Louie and Sean Hamilton released has a new album, “Unconditional Love In Hi-Fi.”
- “So Mad is about the day to day of what women deal with – from losing autonomy of our bodies as the US slowly revokes laws surrounding abortion and birth control, to being able to safely walk home at night – and the expectation that we can’t be too angry about it, and to just… smile more,” said Louie in a statement.
OMBIIGIZI, Back At Me (Featuring Peter Dreimanis)
- The project is led by Daniel Monkman (Zoon) and Adam Sturgeon (Status/Non Status). They released their debut album, “Sewn Back Together,” last year.
- This is their latest single with Peter Dreimanis from Toronto band July Talk.
Supaman & Ashley Hall, I Hope You Know
- Christian Parrish Take The Gun, goes by the artist name Supaman.
- This song is from his latest album, “Medicine Bundle.”
Stella Standingbear, Home Runs
- The artist from Salt Lake City blends alternative music and rap. She went viral on TikTok last fall sharing her traditional language.
The Halluci Nation, Remember 02
- The duo formerly known as A Tribe Called Red, will play a show in Toronto next Friday.
Young Spirit – Falling In Love
- We found this song thanks to Oshawa band Crown Lands, who have a great indigenous music playlist online.
- The Cree drum group formed in Frog Lake, Alberta back in 2011.
- This is from their album released in 2014.
Zoon, A Language Disappears
- Daniel Monkman is once again up for a Polaris Prize this year with his new album, “Bekka Ma’iingan.”
