It’s a busy time of year in the Quinte region, with community events and celebrations. Many local groups are looking for your support.
If you have some extra time, or are looking to build on your skill set, even just get out and meet some amazing people. Volunteer Information Quinte is the go to organization when it comes to finding the perfect match for you.
Here is the VIQ update for this week.
- Prince Edward County’s Women’s Institute is getting ready for its art and craft show on Thursday, August 3rd. The event will take place at the Picton fairgrounds. The ladies are looking for some help with setting everything up, tear down, and assisting vendors and guests. Students are welcome to join in. Training is provided.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters Hastings Prince Edward is getting ready for Ribfest in Belleville, August 18-20. This is the second Ribfest for the region. The team is looking for people to help out with serving beverages. You need your Smart Serve certificate to work behind the bar. Big Brothers Big Sisters also needs people to help with the tables.
- Parkinson Canada is looking for some help with their Pedaling for Parkinson’s Event in Prince Edward County. People are needed on August 18th and 19th to help set up the event ahead of time, participate with registration on event day, along with at the rest stops, and tear down at the end.
- The Museums of Prince Edward County have some unique volunteer opportunities at five of its locations in the county: Front-desk receptions and hosts are needed at some of the museums. Several volunteers will get a chance to dress in period costume and deliver programming. The museums in need of volunteers are: Macaulay House, the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum, and the Rose House Museum.
- The Children’s Foundation is getting ready for their Kids Can’t Wait Radioathon – happening on October 4th. The team is looking for help with answering phones and collecting donations. Training will be provided before the big day.
- The Food program at Bridge Street United Church in Belleville, is looking for a helping hand. The team needs people to help greet everyone at the door, monitor guests during the lunch program and hand out bagged lunches. Volunteer work in pairs. Training is provided.
- The Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is seeking volunteers to assist in distributing food. Responsibilities include sorting of donations, packing hampers and restocking shelves, and on site training will be provided. You must be able to lift 30 pounds and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
- Catherine’s Kitchen in Quinte West is looking for help with food prep, serving and clean up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. You can also sign up to be on call, or for specific days. The program runs from Monday to Thursday.
- Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors is actively recruiting volunteers for their driving program. Volunteer drivers provide door-to-door transportation service to medical appointments and essential shopping. In most instances, the driver will remain with the client to ensure their safe arrival home.
- Bingo continues at the Lion’s Hall in Belleville. Volunteers are needed at both matinee and evening sessions that run seven days a week. Volunteers help set up, tidy the area after each shift, and assist with payouts.
- Prince Edward Community Care is seeking volunteers for the Thrift Shop located in Picton. No experience is necessary, as full orientation is provided. The time commitment is one hour a week, either mornings or afternoons.
- Central Hastings Support Network is looking for drivers. Clients need a lift to appointment, which include Kingston or Toronto. Drivers use their own vehicles and receive reimbursement through a pre-determined fee.
- Quinte Immigration Services is looking for people to help with their Ukraine Assistance Group. People are needed who can speak Ukrainian, Polish and Russian. Your talents will be used to help assist new people settling in the community.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
