A staple for gardeners in the Quinte region has gone up in smoke.
A fire broke out at Thrasher’s Garden Centre last night around 7:30 p.m.
Fire crews were able to prevent the blaze from getting to the pesticides and fertilizers in the store, located at the corner of North Front and Harriet Street.
No injuries have been reported. Heavy machinery was on site around 11 p.m. last night, knocking down the old front entrance area.
The area remains blocked off to traffic.
Belleville Police have announced in a statement this morning, that a 51-year-old man, with no fixed address, has been charged with arson. The man has also been charged with two counts of breaching probation.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating along with police.
