Head Coach Derek Smith says he wanted the team’s help in deciding who would
lead the Trenton Golden Hawks during the 2023-24 season.
This week Smith shared with his team the five players who will be leading them to
victory. “There are 8, 10, 12 players on this year’s club that could be wearing
letters,” says Smith. “It is a great problem to have.”
The team will have two permanent Assistant Captains, one for home, and one for
the road. “Dillon Stiles will wear an A away from the Dunc. He has leadership,
strength, plays in key situations, and is great in the room. Corbin Roach will wear an
A for home games.” Smith continued, “Fans are going to love the energy he brings
to the game every shift. He will become a favourite quickly.”
“Barret Joynt and Lucas Lapalm will wear a letter home and away. Joynt is an
undeniable leader wherever he goes. He is going to be a great asset to our younger
players. Lucas meanwhile has championship pedigree. He has an OJHL Title to his
name and played in a national championship. That experience is second to none.”
The role of 2023-24 Trenton Golden Hawks Captain goes to Adam O’Marra. “He is
very skilled, smart away from the puck, he is a leader on and off the ice. He is quiet,
but he leads by example.”
“I am honoured,” says O’Marra. “I take great pride in wearing the C and will not take
it for granted. There are a number of leaders in the locker room, and we cannot wait
to get the season started.”
The Trenton Golden Hawks open their season when they welcome the
Cobourg Cougars to the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens at 7:30
p.m, Friday September 8.
