Volunteers are the backbone of the Quinte region. As we enjoy Thanksgiving long weekend reconnected with loved ones, many community groups are looking for support.

Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
- Community Care For Seniors Prince Edward County is looking for energetic folks to help run the Thrift Shop in Picton. Shifts are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No experience is required. Shifts are particularly needed on Saturdays.
- *The Community Development Council of Quinte (CDC Quinte) needs some strong volunteers to help with its Good Food Box Program. You will help unload food donations, pack food hampers, and then load the hampers into delivery vehicles. You must be able to lift up to 50-pounds. The Community Development Council is located on Station Street in Belleville.
- Gleaners Food Bank is also looking for volunteers as school programs ramp back up. The team is looking for 4 people to help deliver food boxes to clients and grocery shop. Volunteer drivers are also needed to pick up donations across Belleville. Additional helpers are needed in the trucks to help pick up items on Mondays. And pack food hampers on Wednesdays.
- The Bridge Street Lunch Program in Belleville, is looking for servers on Sunday and Tuesday. The shifts are from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers would be responsible for serving food, and cleaning up. On Sundays, volunteers will be asked to greet guests and monitor areas.
- Links to Learning is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with reading, comprehension, and writing. Their programs runs Monday & Tuesday nights. This opportunity is open to youth over the age of 14 and is a great way to achieve volunteer hours.
- VON is looking for drivers and passengers, to help deliver meals to clients. The meals on wheels program needed support once a week for an hour on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between the hours of 11am and noon. Volunteers are also required for the transportation program.
- The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for people to drive clients to cancer-related treatments and appointments. Those interested will have a telephone interview before hand to go over all the training and requirements. Drivers will have a flexible schedule.
- Community Care Central Hastings is seeking volunteers to assist with the Meals on Wheels program in Madoc, Marmora, Stirling and Tweed. People follow a set route as meals are delivered between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30pm. Volunteers are also required for the transportation program.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
