As the cool weather sets in… many community groups are looking for your support. If you are a high school or Loyalist College student looking to get your community hours done early, or someone looking to give back to our community. Volunteer Information Quinte can find a place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update For This week.
- The Grace Inn Shelter in Belleville is looking for volunteers. They need people to help clean, make beds, do the laundry, sort donations, and work in the kitchen in the evenings.
- Bridge Street United Church in Belleville, is looking for helpers for their Lunch Program. The program runs on Sundays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers are also required on Sundays to assist with greeting guests, monitoring areas, and assist with retrieving lunches for guests.
- Continuing On In Education, is looking for volunteers to help with their Bingo events. Bingo games run three times a month. The time commitment is 5:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Duties include calling back Bingos and customer support. Training is provided.
- Foundations of Youth need people for their school programs in Quinte West and Tweed. Volunteers support students with their homework and help organize games. The team is also looking for people in Madoc to help with the lunch programs. Training is provided
- Food For Learning is seeking volunteers at a variety of schools throughout Hastings and Prince Edward. Duties include grocery shopping, preparing meals, serving students, and general clean up. The program runs until June. You can volunteer once a week or a month. Training and orientation are provided.
- The Picton Hospital is looking for people to help support patients. Volunteer duties include helping during meal times and making time to chat.
- The Picton Hospital Auxiliary team is looking for greeters to work throughout a variety of departments. Greeters are at the main entrance and other areas to help with directions and answer questions.
- If you like to sew, the Quinte Ballet School of Canada could use you. The school in Belleville is looking for people to help create and alter dance costumes for students. Volunteers are needed October, November, and April to May each year.
- Links to Learning is looking for assistance with their one-to-one reading program. This program runs Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. High schools looking for volunteers are welcome.
- Trenton Care and Share Foodbank are looking for people to help with sorting food donations, stocking shelves, and packing food hampers. You should be able to comfortably lift 30 pounds for this role, and be okay with working in a fast-paced environment.
- The Community Care for Seniors Prince Edward County Association is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions. Reception volunteers in the Picton office. The time commitment is three hours a week. Orientation is provided. Volunteers are also to deliver Meals on Wheels in Athol and Milford Hot meals are picked up in Picton at 11:30 am and delivered to seniors on a specified route.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
