The holiday season is ramping up, as we enjoy lots of craft sales, virtual auctions, and lots more fundraisers, many community groups need your support. If you are looking to get out and meet some new people, learn some new skills, or get your volunteer hours done, Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right fit for you.
Here is the VIQ update for this week:
* Victim Services is seeking onsite support volunteers. Volunteers are on call for a 12-hour period to Emergency Services in Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington Counties. This service is offered in the Community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteers provide on-scene emotional and practical assistance and referrals to community agencies. Volunteers complete online modules (40 hours) followed by in-class training.
*Abigail’s is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to work in the Babies and Beyond program once a week on Thursday afternoons. Duties include: Participating in all care routines, Caring for child care equipment, set-up and take down of the activity area, and assisting with planned activities
*The National Air Force Museum of Canada, over in Trenton, is looking for people who could volunteer! They need folks to greet visitors, help answer questions, and support the gift shop.
*Quinte Immigration Services is looking for volunteers with its Ukraine Assistance Group. They need people who speak fluent Ukrainian, Polish, and/or Russian to translate and assist newcomers to our region.
*The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is getting ready for its annual Festival of Trees Event. The event will take place from Friday, December 1st to Sunday, December 3rd at Isaiah Tubbs Resort. Volunteers are needed to help sell tickets, monitor the decorated trees, and help out at the bake sale. Depending on the task you choose, times vary… but generally, a 4-hour shift is good.
*Hospice Prince Edward is seeking volunteers to provide support to individuals and their families as they navigate the end-of-life journey. Volunteer positions take place in either a home or the 3-bed Hospice Residence. Volunteers are provided with a training program.
*Bridge Street Lunch Program in Belleville needs folks to help serve lunches on Sundays and Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Volunteers are also needed on Sundays to monitor the area and greet guests.
*The Community Care Prince Edward County Association needs people to drive clients to appointments and out for essential shopping trips. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided by a staff member.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
