The countdown to the holiday season is officially here! Many events and programs we enjoy this time of year would not be possible without the dedication of volunteers. If you are looking to get your volunteer hours done, have some time to spare, and are looking to meet some new people… then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
*United Way HPE will be stationed at the Quinte Mall in Belleville for a holiday gift-wrapping fundraiser. Volunteers are required to assist with wrapping items from December 8th-24th. All funds raised remain local to support over 38 agencies. Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts are available. Training is provided.
*The Salvation Army is looking for people to be a part of their annual Kettle Campaign. Shifts by the kettles across the region are two hours each. Teens can volunteer.
*St Leonard’s Community Support Prevention and Residential Services is looking for people to join their board. The team is looking for people with backgrounds in finance, governance, communications, and human resources. Meetings are held monthly with a minimum one-year commitment.
*Links to Learning is seeking volunteers for their tutoring programs. Volunteers assist children with reading following a set curriculum. Tutoring takes place Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm. Training is provided onsite and high school students are welcome.
*Community Care Central Hastings is looking for volunteer drivers to deliver meals to seniors on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers must have their own vehicle. The time commitment can be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is seeking volunteer drivers and assistants for the Good Food Box Program. Duties include picking up items, loading donations, and delivering boxes. Volunteers must be able to lift 50 lbs and drivers are required to provide an abstract. Training is provided on-site.
*The Regent Theatre in Picton is looking for people to help around the theater with odd jobs High school students are welcome to apply!
*Reaching For Rainbows located in Picton, is currently seeking volunteers to spend a few hours a week to support programming. Duties include reading, singing, preparing snacks, and playing games with young girls attending the program.
*VON Meals on Wheels requires volunteer drivers and passengers who will deliver meals to clients. Volunteer a minimum of once a week for an hour on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday between the hours of 11 and noon. Drivers are also required for their Transportation program both local and long-distance routes.
*The National Air Force Museum of Canada is looking for people to help out in the museum. You can be in the gift shop or out on the floor interacting with visitors enjoying all the exhibits
*The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is looking for people who can come in to Picton Hospital and volunteer. They need people to be near the Main Entrance offering overall support for visitors, staff, and patients.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
