As Loyalist College students wrap up the Fall Semester this week, many community groups are looking for your support. If you need to get your volunteer hours done.. or out of the house for something different…then Volunteer Information Quinte has the perfect place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Hospice Quinte is actively seeking volunteers to work at the Stan Klemencic Care Centre. The team needs people to be at the reception desk and greet visitors. Volunteers are also needed to help out with set up and cleaning, in meeting and training rooms. Morning and afternoon shifts are available with full training and orientation provided.
Hospice Quinte is accepting volunteers for their next training sessions. Volunteers provide support for people in their home, long-term care, or hospital setting. The training sessions is 10-weeks and is a hybrid model.
*Continuing on in Education is seeking bingo volunteers to assist at the Lion’s Bingo Hall in Belleville. The time commitment is 5:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Bingo Nights – which are once a month on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Funds raised support local programming.
*The Canadian Mental Health Addictions and Mental Health Services needs support. They need people to be a part of their Board of Directors. Having a strong background in finances, law, and HR is considered an asset…as well as a knowledge of the health care system. Meetings are held monthly, orientation and training is provided.
*St Leonard’s Community Support Prevention and Residential Services is also looking for board members. There is an application and interview. The board meets once a month.
*Big Brother Big Sisters is seeking volunteers to assist with their in-school mentoring program. The volunteer mentor meets with a student at their school for one hour each week. This program runs for one school year and follows the school calendar. Orientation and training is provided.
*Bancroft Community Transit is looking for volunteer drivers to help people get to medical appointments and out for essential shopping. Trips can be local or long distance. Mileage is reimbursed.
*The Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors Association is seeking volunteer drivers who can provide door-to-door transportation service for medical appointments and essential shopping. Reimbursement is provided.
*Central Hastings Support Network requires volunteer drivers from Belleville, to drive local clients out to appointments. The drives can be as far as Kingston, or Toronto. Drivers use their own vehicle and are reimbursed in advance. They choose what trips they want to take.
*Community Care South Hasting requires volunteer drivers to drive seniors to and from medical appointments to Belleville, Picton, Kingston, and all points in between. Occasionally to Ottawa or Toronto. They are also seeking volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels and frozen meal program.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
