While many of us continue to visit family over the holiday break, a growing list of local organizations are looking to build back their volunteer base.
If you are interesting in getting out of the house and meeting some new people, or maybe getting your volunteer hours done before the deadline…then Volunteer Information Quinte can help you find the right fit.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*If you like to drive, Central Hastings Support Network could use your support. They are looking for volunteers to drive clients to and from appointments. The trips can be local or as far as Kingston and Toronto. Drivers must use their own vehicle and are re-imbursed a predetermined feed. Drivers also choose what trips they take.
*Community Care South Hastings also needs volunteers behind the wheel! They need people that can drive clients to medical appointments around the Quinte region, as far as Kingston, Toronto and Ottawa. They also need drivers for their Meals on Wheels Program.
*Big Brother Big Sisters is looking for people to help mentor young people. Their In-School Mentoring program matches up a volunteer with a young person. Sessions are one hour and take place at the student’s school. Orientation and training is provided.
*Are you comfortable answering phone calls? Community Care Prince Edward County could use you at their office in Picton and foot care clinic in Wellington. They are looking for people who can help at the Reception Desk. Experience with a computer is a must! They also need enthusiastic volunteers to help out at the Thrift Shop in downtown Picton. Shifts are 3 hours a week.
*Hospice Quinte is accepting volunteers for their next training sessions. Volunteers provide support for people in their home, long-term care, or hospital setting. The training sessions is 10-weeks and is a hybrid model.
*Several retirement and long-term care homes throughout Hasting and Prince Edward counties are looking for volunteers. You can entertain the residents with your musical talents or just help out with some festive arts and crafts.
*Pensioners Concerned is a volunteer based not for profit organization. Their mandate is to prepare tax returns for low income, seniors and disabled individuals. They are looking for volunteers who are experienced with preparing simple income returns and who are familiar with the use tax software. Time commitment is late February, March and April with a minimum one three hour shift per week.
*Museums of Prince Edward County is seeking volunteers to assist with various positions within the five sites – Macaulay House, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariner’s Park Museum and Rose House Museum. Volunteers can assist with front desk reception, dress in costume, and deliver programming, host positions and events.
*The National Air Force Museum of Canada is looking for people to help out in the museum. You can be in the gift shop or out on the floor interacting with visitors enjoying all the exhibits.
*The Regent Theatre in Picton is looking for people to help around the theater with odd jobs high school students are welcome to apply!
*The Alternatives for Women Team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within Prince Edward County, sorting and packing donations.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
