Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has released their weekly COVID-19 update for the community today.
Staff say that over the last week, they have identified 36 new high-risk infections. There are a total of 44 new high-risk infections between the two counties today.
There is one new virus-related death in the report. A total of 142 local residents have now died since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
Quinte Health is dealing with less people in care with COVID-19, but the numbers remain high.
Last week, Quinte Health was averaging 39 patients in care, the largest influx of patients since October 2022.
As of today, Quinte Health has been averaging 26 patients in care, with five in the ICU. About double the patient volume compared to last year in January. It is still the largest peak seen since October 2022.
The region has gone from five outbreaks in high-risk settings to three as of today.
COVID-19 outbreaks are impacting Hallowell House in the County, Hastings Manor, and Richmond Retirement Homes in Belleville.
Local health officials continue to encourage people to stay up to date with the COVID and flu vaccines, along with wearing a mask in indoor settings. Infection rates remain stubbornly high, causing significant strain on the health care sector.
