
With only around 60 days before spring, time is starting to run out for high school students and Loyalist College students to complete their volunteer hours. If you find yourself in a pickle, then Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right place for you.
Here it the VIQ Update for this week,
*The Grace Inn Shelter is looking for people who can help out Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to clean beds, sweep, mop and sort donations.
*The Loyola School is looking for people who can help others learn english. Volunteers can help adult students Monday to Friday during class time from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must commit to at least one morning a week. Volunteers work with the ESL instructor.
*Bridge Street Church in Belleville continues to provide free meals to those who are homeless in the community. The team is looking for volunteers who can help out in the kitchen. They need folks to make sandwiches by 11 a.m. each morning and bake desserts as necessary. Clean up teams are also needed. The commitment is in the mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
*Mission Thrift Store in Belleville is looking for volunteers who can help out in the store and back sorting donations. Training is provided. Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts are all available.
*Links to Learning is currently seeking volunteers to assist with their one to one reading programs. This program runs Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. High school students are welcome to apply.
*If you enjoy working on computers and have an interest in musical instruments, then Stirling Musical Instrument Lending Library could use your help. The Stirling M.I.L.L is a not-for-profit program that lends musical instruments for free to people in the Quinte region. Volunteers are needed at the Stirling MILL home base at the Stirling-Rawdon Public Library on Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lending program also needs skilled individuals to work with the curator on maintenance and repair of the musical instruments. Drivers are also needed to transport instruments to and from the Belleville Library to the Stirling-Rawdon Library.
*The Belleville General Hospital Auxiliary team is looking for some more people to help out at the Aroma Cafe. Volunteers are needed at the BGH cafe to help serve coffee, run the cash, and clean up. They need folks Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. The BGH Auxiliary also needs folks at the gift shop. They have three vacant positions. People are needed Monday afternoons 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
*Community Living Quinte West is looking for folks to help run bingo games every two weeks. They also need people who can help organize fundraising events and visit people in their homes. Orientation and training provided.
*Gateway Community Health Center is seeking volunteers the second Tuesday of each month to organize and load good food boxes into clients’ vehicles. Volunteers must be able to lift 30 pounds.
*The Open Door Cafe is a free community lunch operating out of Eastminster United Church in Belleville. The Cafe is open every Wednesday. The team is looking for people to help with cleanup in the kitchen. The volunteer shift would be Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
