The Quinte region is full of organizations and programs that are looking for your support. If you love to give volunteering a go or are looking to change up your daily routine and learn some new skills…then the team at Volunteer Information Quinte can find the right place for you.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Bancroft Community Transit team and Prince Edward Community Care For Seniors Association are both looking for volunteer drivers. They need people to take clients to medical appointments and out for essential shopping. The trips can be local and long-distance. Mileage is reimbursed.
*If you like a good bingo game, and cup of coffee, then Community Living Quinte West might be the place for you. The team is looking for volunteers who can help run bingo games every other week, take people out for coffee, and visit clients in their homes. Orientation and training is provided.
*The Gateway Community Health Centre in Tweed is looking for people to load and organize good food boxes. Volunteers must be able to lift 30 pounds and be available on the second Tuesday of each month.
*If you like to clean around the house, then the Grace Inn Shelter in Belleville is looking for you. The team needs people to help deal with the laundry, floors, and sorting donations. Shifts are available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
*The Loyola School is looking for people who can help out during English Language Classes. Volunteers are needed during classes from Monday to Friday. Volunteers would need to commit to at least an hour, to help with ESL Instructor during class time.
*The Bridge Street United Church, in downtown Belleville, continues to offer meals to the homeless and those in need in our community. The team is looking for people who can prep lunches and wash dishes. The time commitment would be mornings from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Training is provided as well as ongoing support from staff.
*If you like working in customer service, the Mission Thrift Store in Belleville is a fun place. Volunteers are needed to sort donated items, provide customer service support, and organize displays. Training is provided and a variety of shifts are available, including evenings.
*Links to Learning is looking for assistance with their one-to-one reading program. This program runs Monday and Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. High schools looking for volunteers are welcome.
*The Regent Theatre in downtown Picton, is a great place to get your volunteer hours if you are a high school student. They are looking for people to do some odd jobs.
*Gleaners Food Bank is seeking Volunteer Drivers to pick up donations at locations throughout Belleville and the surrounding area. Some heavy lifting is involved. Orientation and training provided
*The Canadian Cancer Society is looking for volunteer drivers to help clients get to and from cancer-related appointments. Volunteer drivers are needed in Madoc, Tweed, and Marmora.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
