CMHA Hasting Prince Edward has released the following statement today.
Canadian Mental Health Association Hastings Prince Edward (CMHA HPE) joins CMHAs across Canada in celebrating the 73rd annual Mental Health Week from May 6-12, 2024.
To recognize the week and raise community mental health awareness, CMHA HPE will be involved in the following community events this week:
• May 8: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., hosting a kiosk at the Loyalist College Spring Orientation Community and Service Fair
• May 11: From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., providing information and resources at the Quinte West Wellness Expo
• May 11: From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Twin Property’s Spring Market in partnership with KabzKreationz will host a community barbecue with proceeds going to CMHA HPE programs and services
“We’re pleased to be out in our community this week to bring more attention to mental health and to highlight our programs, services, staff and volunteers that support Hastings and Prince Edward Counties,” said CMHA HPE CEO Lisa Ali. “We appreciate everyone in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties for your support of our work and look forward to an engaging Mental Health Week.”
The focus of this year’s Mental Health Week is on how compassion and kindness toward others can directly impact mental health. Alongside sharing information about local programs and services at this week’s community events, CMHA HPE will also be distributing a series of information resources on a range of topics related to compassion. These resources include the relevance of compassion in the workplace, its mental health impacts, the concept of self- compassion and a compassion journal for the week. These resources are also available at
CMHA HPE offices in Belleville, Bancroft, Trenton, Madoc, Picton and Tweed, as well as electronically on the CMHA HPE website.
As CMHA HPE continues to work with health care and social services partners to navigate the ongoing crisis in our community, Mental Health Week is an important reminder that mental health and addictions can impact anyone, and to varying degrees of severity. The agency encourages and welcomes anyone in the region to reach out for support if you need it.
