
As we get outside and embrace the warmer weather, many community groups are also gearing up for some outdoor events and activities. If you are finished College and university for the year, recently retired, or looking to reconnect with the Quinte region…then Volunteer Information Quinte is the place to start! They match volunteers with organizations all year round.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Community Care agencies in South Hastings, Prince Edward County and Central Hastings need people to support meals on wheels programs. Volunteers are urgently needed to deliver meals to seniors homes weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Volunteers follow a set route, and can pick and choose their schedule.
*Gateway Community Health Centre is looking for people at their location in Tweed. The team needs people on the second Tuesday of every month, to distribute Good Food Boxes. Duties include organizing and loading the food box.
*A variety of non-profit agencies need your support at the Lion’s Bingo Hall in Belleville. Bingo games are held seven days a week in the afternoon and evenings. Volunteers call back bingos and assist with payouts. All the proceeds from the bingo games go right back to non-profits to support programs in the community.
*Central Hastings Support Network is looking for people in Madoc. Volunteers are needed at the Helping Hands Food Bank to pack and distribute food boxes. A wide-variety of shifts are available.
*Abigail’s is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to work in the babies and beyond program once a week on Thursday afternoons. Duties will include: Participating in all care routines, caring for child care equipment, set-up and take down activity area returning items to their storage place, maintaining an organized activity area, assist with planned activities.
*Quinte West Youth Centre is looking for people to support teens at the Centre. Volunteers will work with teens as they take part in a wide-variety of programs and get their homework done.
*The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is seeking volunteers to assist monthly as a Good Food Box Driver and Driver Assistant. As the Volunteer Driver you will be responsible for: Picking up and delivering Good Food Boxes, helping to load and unload the boxes for delivery, and heading out on deliveries.
*Gleaners Food Bank is looking for drivers and assistants. Volunteers pick up donations at local businesses, deliver food boxes to specific locations to support clients and community agencies. Volunteers must be able to lift 25 pounds. Time commitment varies Monday to Friday. Orientation and training provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
