The Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board has released the following statement this week.
Second Bay of Quinte Student Photography Contest Opens June 1
The Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board is launching its second student photography contest in an effort to help foster increased interest in photography and exploration in the region. Students ages 7 to 18 can submit their photos throughout the month of June in three age categories, with category winners taking home a digital camera or cash prizes. Winning photos will be displayed in the Quinte Arts Council gallery in July and may also be considered as feature content through Bay of Quinte’s platforms and social channels!
“We feel that part of our responsibility as the Marketing Board for this region is to support the development of skill sets that are relevant to marketing, like photography. Youth are so interesting and inspiring – they see things very differently from us adults, and we love giving them a motivator to work more with a camera and to showcase their vision”, says Dug Stevenson, Bay of Quinte’s Executive Director.
The Quinte Arts Council has once again donated its gallery space, which will feature the prints of the winning student photos in each of the categories: 7-10 years, 11-14 years, and 15-18 years. The show is set to launch in the second half of July at the QAC, 36 Bridge St E in downtown Belleville. More information on the student photography exhibit will be available on bayofquinte.ca/photocontest after the contest closes.
“Thank you to the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board for facilitating this annual student photography contest and exhibition,” Says Janet Jarrell, Executive Director of the Quinte Arts Council. “This initiative perfectly aligns with our mandate to foster creativity and support the arts in our community. By providing young photographers with a platform to showcase their talent, we foster the creativity of the next generation of young artists, which is essential to ensure the continual growth and evolution of our cultural landscape, enriching our community with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.”
Students can submit up to 5 photos of their favourite places or things to do in the Bay of Quinte region, each accompanied by a description explaining why they love it. Entrants must reside in one of the Bay of Quinte partner communities of Belleville, Brighton, Napanee and Quinte West, or be a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. Photos submitted for entry can be taken anytime between June 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024.
