Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, give back, and learn something new.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
- The Belleville Caribbean Festival is happening Friday, August 16th until Sunday, August 18th. Volunteers are needed to help set-up and tear down after the event. People are needed to greet vendors and visitors. Training and orientation is provided.
- The O’Hara Mill Homestead and Conservation Area in Madoc, is looking for people who can help out with events. The team needs people who can dress up in period costumes, set up events, and clean up after. Musical volunteers, and wizards in the kitchen, or at the craft table are always welcome.
- Not Alone Team Quinte is looking for volunteers to assist with summer fundraisers. Fundraisers this month and next month. High School students are welcome to join. Volunteers will assist the day of events with a variety of activities. Some duties include team registration, handing out information material, setup and teardown of events, assisting participants and providing direction and support.
- The Museums of Prince Edward County have some unique volunteer opportunities at five of its locations in the county: Front-desk receptions and hosts are needed at some of the museums. Several volunteers will get a chance to dress in period costumes and deliver programming. The museums in need of volunteers are Macaulay House, the Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariner’s Park Museum, and the Rose House Museum.
- Work at a hospital is never done, and there is currently a need at Picton Hospital. The Prince Edward County Hospital Auxiliary team is looking for people to volunteer their time and support patients. Tasks include helping with meal times. Orientation and training is provided.
- The Bridge Street United Church Food Program in downtown Belleville, is looking for people to monitor and greet visitors at the front door. Duties include monitoring guests for the lunch program and retrieving bagged lunches for certain guests. This volunteer works in pairs. Training provided.
- Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is seeking volunteers to assist in distributing food. Responsibilities include sorting of donations, packing hampers and restocking shelves. Training will be provided. Should be able to lift 30lbs, work in a quick-paced environment.
- Catharine’s Kitchen located in Quinte West is seeking volunteers to assist with food preparation, serving, and cleanning. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. There are also on-call positions as well as scheduled positions. The program runs from Monday to Thursday.
- Gleaners Food Bank is in urgent need of volunteer drivers to help pick up donations from businesses. Drivers are also needed to deliver food boxes to clients and organizations. Volunteers with Gleaners must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. The time commitment varies from Monday to Friday.
- The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for drivers for the Good Food Box program. People are also needed to help pack and unload donations.
- Prince Edward Community Care is seeking volunteers for the Thrift Shop located in Picton. No experience is necessary. Full orientation is offered. Morning and afternoon shifts available. The time commitment is one hour per week.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
