
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, give back, and learn something new. Especially this time of year with so many events and programs. Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that brings it all together. Connecting volunteers with opportunities across the Bay of Quinte region.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
-Hospice Quinte is looking for volunteers to do some cooking and baking at the Stan Klemencic Care Centre. People would help provide some great food to residents and clients at the Centre. It would be considered an asset if you already had your food handling certificate.
–Belleville’s Caribbean Festival is next week! The City is looking for people to help during the event from August 16th to August 18th. Main tasks include assisting with set up and tear down. Helping to greet visitors and providing directions to vendors. Training and orientation is provided.
–The Prince Edward County Hospital Auxiliary needs people to support patients at Picton Hospital. Tasks include offering support during meal times. Orientation and training provided.
–The Bridge Street United Church Food Program in Belleville is looking for people to greet visitors at the front door. Volunteers work in pairs and monitor people visiting for the lunch program. In some cases you’ll have to hand out lunch bags to certain people. Training is provided.
-Gleaners Food Bank is in urgent need of volunteer drivers to help pick up donations from businesses. Drivers are also needed to deliver food boxes to clients and organizations. Volunteers with Gleaners must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. The time commitment varies from Monday to Friday.
-The Community Development Council of Quinte, known as CDC Quinte, is looking for drivers for the Good Food Box program. People are also needed to help pack and unload donations, and driving a cube van once a month on the second and fourth Tuesday.
–Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is seeking volunteers to assist in distributing food. Responsibilities include sorting of donations, packing hampers and restocking shelves. Training will be provided. Should be able to lift 30lbs, work in a quick-paced environment.
-The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, and assisting with events.
-People are urgently needed to meet the demand at the Stirling Musical Instrument Lending Library. The Stirling M.I.L.L is a not-for-profit program that lends musical instruments for free to people in the Quinte region. Volunteers are needed at the Stirling MILL home base at the Stirling-Rawdon Public Library on Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program needs people to keep up with donations, loans, and computer work.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
