Prince Edward County has released the following statement this week.
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue (PECFR) is encouraging County residents over the age of 18 to “answer the call” and become a volunteer firefighter.
Volunteer firefighters are the unsung heroes of our community. Their commitment strengthens relationships within Prince Edward County, enhances safety, and ensures that help is always near. By becoming a volunteer firefighter, you’re not just filling a role; you’re becoming a beacon of hope and resilience for your neighbours, making a profound difference every single day.
Volunteer firefighters are summoned to a wide array of emergencies including fires, emergency medical incidents, vehicle accidents, water rescue emergencies and more. These dedicated individuals juggle their personal and professional lives to answer the call of duty, providing essential fire and emergency services where resources are limited.
To become a volunteer firefighter in Prince Edward County, candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
Must possess a valid Ontario driver’s licence
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must physically be able to perform tasks and duties of the job
Must be able to commit to training
Must live and/or work in the response area (i.e. Prince Edward County)
Must have no conviction of a criminal offense related to the job duties of a firefighter
Volunteer firefighters are paid an hourly wage for training and emergency response. PECFR is actively recruiting for volunteer firefighter positions that are suitable for those with firefighting experience, and for those who have had no previous experience or training.
Those interested in joining PECFR but would like more information are encouraged to attend one of the in-person volunteer firefighter information pop-ups happening throughout the County:
