As we transition from the spooky to the festive season, many events and programs we look forward to this time of year would not be possible without the dedication of local volunteers.

Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*Community Care South Hastings is looking for volunteer drivers. People are needed to take clients to and from medical appointments and out for essential shopping. Mileage is reimbursed. Orientation and training will be provided to drivers, as well as a variety of schedules. Community Care South Hastings also needs drivers to deliver Meals on Wheels, Monday to Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must own your vehicle. This volunteer commitment can be once a week, biweekly or monthly.
*If health-care is your passion, then you can get involved with the Belleville Quinte West Community Health Centre. The team continues to look for people to help create programs and services with a focus on improving health and well-being for local residents. Programs can center around food, social well-being and physical activity. Volunteers are needed to help draw up some programs and deliver them.
*If you’re a home cook who’d like to put your skills to work… Catherine’s Kitchen needs helpers for its community lunch program. Volunteers assist in food preparation, serving, and clean-up. Shifts are from 8:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Catherine’s Kitchen is located at 24 Dundas Street West in Trenton.
*Grace Inn Shelter is looking for folks to help out in a variety of roles. They need volunteers to help with cleaning duties – doing the laundry, making beds, and sorting donations. Grace Inn Shelter also needs people who enjoy being in the kitchen, prepping food, making drinks, and interacting with guests. Orientation and training for the volunteer roles will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon and from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
*Quinte Isle Non-Profit Housing Corporation is looking for a Treasurer, to assist the Board of Directors. The Treasurer would help make sure that all the accounts are accurate and well kept. The time commitment is roughly one-hour each month. Tasks include reviewing the capital and operating budgets, and review the annual meeting accounts with the Auditor. The ideal candidate for the role would be someone already based in Prince Edward County, with a financial, business and/or bookkeeping background. Orientation and training would be provided.
*Victim Services is looking for volunteers that can be on-call to assist emergency personal in Hastings, Prince Edward, and Lennox and Addington Counties. Volunteers are on call for a 12-hour period. This service is offered in the Community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteers provide on-scene emotional, practical assistance, and referrals to community agencies. Volunteers complete online modules, which takes 40 hours, followed by in-class training.
*Hospice Prince Edward is looking for people to provide support to patients and their families facing end of life care. Volunteer positions take place in either the individual’s home or the Hospice Residence. Volunteers are provided a training program.
*The Bridge Street Church Lunch Program, operating out of Downtown Belleville, is currently looking for people to serve meals. People are needed to help pass out the food, every Sunday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. People are needed to greet, monitor guests.
*The National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton is also in need of a helping hand. The team is looking for volunteers to help greet visitors and work at the gift shop.
*If you like to drive, then Community Care Prince Edward County Association could use your support. The team is looking for people to drive clients to and from appointments. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided by a staff member.
*Food For Learning is seeking volunteers at various schools throughout Hastings and Prince Edward. Duties include shopping, preparing and serving food to students, and general clean up. The time commitments vary, based on the needs of each school.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with reading, comprehension, and writing. Their programs run on Monday & Tuesday nights. This opportunity is open to youth over the age of 14 and is a great way to achieve volunteer hours.
*Foundations of Youth is looking for after-school activity support. The team is looking for people in Quinte West and Tweed, who can help run programs for students. Duties include helping with homework, organizing games and activities for youth. Foundation of Youth also needs volunteers up in Madoc to help prepare and serve lunches to students during school hours. Training is provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
