It’s a busy time of year full of fundraisers, vendor markets, and holiday campaigns.
Many activities we enjoy in the Quinte region, and rely on to brighten November, would not be possible without the dedication and determination of countless volunteers. Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*VIQ is currently seeking volunteers for the 2nd Annual Quinte West Christmas Market. This year, the event is taking place on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday December 8th. Morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available based on the position on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. This will incorporate the Special Event team needed for the Holly Trolley Christmas light tour on Sunday. Shifts will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteer positions include assisting at the holiday games area, being Santa’s helper, being a crafts and cookie decorating volunteers, a host at the food tent, and an on-site assistant. Training provided by staff.
*Bridge Street United Church in downtown Belleville, continues to look for volunteers to support their food programs for the most vulnerable in our community. People are needed in the kitchen, with preparing and serving lunches. If you love doing dishes, this is also a great spot for you. Training and orientation is provided as the team is also in need of people to greet visitors at the door. People are currently needed to help out on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with reading, comprehension, and writing. Their programs run on Monday & Tuesday nights. This opportunity is open to youth over the age of 14 and is a great way to achieve volunteer hours.
*Salvation Army is seeking volunteers to assist at the annual Kettle Campaign. Shifts are 2 hours; kettles are located inside various businesses throughout Belleville and Prince Edward County. Volunteer duties include greeting individuals with a smile and overseeing the kettle. Volunteer is pairs, youth are welcome and help make a difference in your community.
*Numerous Not for Profit agencies are currently seeking volunteers to assist at the Lion’s Club Bingo Hall. Bingo’s are held in afternoon and evenings seven days a week. Volunteer duties include calling back Bingo’s and assisting with payouts. Training and safety protocols are in place. ALL proceeds go to the not for profits to ensure program delivery and services are maintained in our community.
*Prince Edward Learning Centre is currently seeking volunteers to assist with the Good Food Market duties include setting up for weekly market, organizing produce, greeting shoppers, and clean up after weekly market. Other positions required include Covid screening, personal shoppers, and delivery drivers.
*Community Care Prince Edward County Association is seeking Volunteer drivers provide door- to-door transportation service to medical appointments and essential shopping. In most instances, the driver will remain with the client to ensure their safe arrival home. Clients pay the driver directly according to the fee schedule. Parking is not included in the fee schedule and will be covered by the client. Clients are independently mobile. Orientation and ongoing support is provided by a staff member.
*Museums of Prince Edward County is seeking volunteers to assist with various positions within the 5 sites Macaulay House, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, Wellington Heritage Museum, Mariners Park Museum and Rose House Museum. Volunteers can assist with Front desk reception, dress in costume and deliver programming, host positions and events.
*Community Care Central Hastings is seeking volunteer to deliver meals to seniors in their home’s weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. Volunteers must have their own vehicle, time commitment can be weekly, biweekly or monthly.
*Victim Services is seeking onsite support volunteers. Volunteers are on call for a 12-hour period to Emergency Services in Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington Counties. This service is offered in the Community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteers provide on scene emotional and practical assistance and referrals to community agencies. Volunteers complete online modules (40hours) followed by in class training.
*Hospice Prince Edward is seeking volunteers to provide support to individuals and their families living with a life limiting illness or facing end of life. Volunteer positions take place in either the individual’s home or the 3 bed Hospice Residence. Volunteers are provided a training program.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
