
As we enjoy little signs of spring…a variety of local organizations are looking for support as the fundraising and event season ramps up.
If you have some time to spare or are looking to just meet some new people, then Volunteer Information Quinte can connect you with some wonderful people in need of a helping hand.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
*It’s been a challenging few months at local hospitals with all sorts of illnesses going around, and in many people in need of further support. In these challenging times, volunteers are vital. Not only to help pick up the slack, but offer some comfort to others in stressful times. The auxiliary teams at Belleville, Trenton, and Picton Hospitals are in need of support. There are volunteer positions for all ages, skill levels, and comfort levels. There are volunteer opportunities at the ERs, gift shops, coffee bars and a variety of departments including Mammography and Day Surgery.
*Reaching For Rainbows in Picton is looking for volunteers. It’s a registered charity that offers no-cost programs for girls in Prince Edward County. If you can spare a few hours each week to engage in activities with the young participants, contact Reaching For Rainbows on its website.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for volunteers to assist with maintaining programs and buildings. They also need people to help with childcare and providing transportation within Prince Edward County.
*Community Partners for Success is seeking individuals to assist as a retail volunteer. Duties include sorting, organizing and fold clothing, assisting individuals to find what they are looking for. Maintain organization in space and greet clients. Orientation and Training provided. Monday to Wednesday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
*A variety of Meals on Wheels programs are in need of support. Meals on Wheels programs through Community Care South Hastings, Community Care Central Hastings, Community Care for Seniors PEC, and VON Quinte West are looking for volunteers to assist with delivering hot meals to client’s doorsteps on weekdays. Flexible shifts are available but you must have your own vehicle.
*Community Living Prince Edward is looking for social individuals who would like to volunteer their time to meet and sit with clients and bond over shared interests like crafts, music and other hobbies.
Bridge Street United Church in downtown Belleville is looking for people to support their lunch program. The team prepares lunches for the most vulnerable in our community, on Saturdays and Sundays. One person is needed on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and two more volunteers are desperately needed again on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
*Community Learning Alternatives is currently seeking community-minded volunteers for their Board of Directors. Candidates with an interest and/or experience in governance, finance, communications, and human resources are required. Individuals residing in Quinte West, Madoc, Marmora, Tweed and Deseronto are encouraged to apply. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5pm to 7pm, summer months exclude.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore in Belleville is seeking volunteers to provide assistance with preparing merchandise for sale , creating floor displays, customer service, loading and unloading donations, and preparing some items for scrap recycling or disposal.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
