
March is going by quickly, and as the countdown to spring continues.. Many community organizations are relying on your support once again as they continue to play for a variety of events and programs.
If you are looking to get your high school volunteer hours done, or simply give back to the place you call home… Volunteer Information Quinte can connect you to the organizations in need of a helping hand.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*It’s been a challenging few months at local hospitals with all sorts of illnesses going around, and in many people in need of further support. In these challenging times, volunteers are vital. Not only to help pick up the slack, but offer some comfort to others in stressful times. The auxiliary teams at Belleville, Trenton, and Picton Hospitals are in need of support. There are volunteer positions for all ages, skill levels, and comfort levels. There are volunteer opportunities at the ERs, gift shops, coffee bars and a variety of departments including Mammography and Day Surgery.
*St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store in downtown Belleville is looking for people to help pick-up donations and deliver items to people in the community. Volunteers must be able to drive a cube truck and lift furniture. Morning and afternoon shifts are required, but the time commitment varies.
*A variety of Meals on Wheels programs are in need of support. Meals on Wheels programs through Community Care South Hastings, Community Care Central Hastings, Community Care for Seniors PEC, and VON Quinte West are looking for volunteers to assist with delivering hot meals to client’s doorsteps on weekdays. Flexible shifts are available but you must have your own vehicle.
*Community Living Prince Edward is looking for social individuals who would like to volunteer their time to meet and sit with clients and bond over shared interests like crafts, music and other hobbies.
*Bridge Street United Church in downtown Belleville is looking for people to support their lunch program. The team prepares lunches for the most vulnerable in our community, on Saturdays and Sundays. One person is needed on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and two more volunteers are desperately needed again on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
*Habitat For Humanity ReStore in Belleville is seeking volunteers to provide assistance with preparing merchandise for sale , creating floor displays, customer service, loading and unloading donations, and preparing some items for scrap recycling or disposal.
*Community Care South Hastings is currently seeking volunteers for their driving program. Volunteers provide door to door transportation to individuals both local and long Distance. Mileage is reimbursed through a predetermined fee. Orientation and training provided.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
