
Volunteer Information Quinte is the organization that connects people with programs in need of support.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week:
*The Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society is currently seeking individuals to serve on the Board of Directors. Applicants must reside within Hastings, Prince Edward or Northumberland Counties. Professional experience in finance, human resources, social services, law, education, EDI are considered assets. Board members are provided with ongoing training and learning opportunities. Meetings are held 10 months of the year with a three year term commitment. Individuals unable to commit to a three-year term can apply for a one-year term as a Community Member on the Service & Administration Committee.
*The Highland Shores Children’s Aid is seeking volunteer drivers who can support drives in the areas of Belleville and/or West of Belleville through to Cobourg or Port Hope. Volunteers assist staff and foster parents with the safe transportation of the children and adults served by the agency to locations where essential services are provided and no other means of access to the service is available. Time commitment vary Monday thru Friday, morning, afternoon or evening with occasional weekend requests. Mileage reimbursement provided.
*Pathways to Independence is seeking volunteers for the following positions. A volunteer is required in Prince Edward County to sit with a gentleman at a church service. They are seeking volunteers as a friendly visitor that could spend a few hours a month visiting individuals at thier supported homes for those living with the affects of an acquired brain injury or with developmental disabilities. The volunteer would spend time socializing, conversing, reading, playing games and sharing stories.
*Meals on Wheels – Community Care South Hastings, Community Care Central Hastings, Community Care for Seniors PEC, and VON Quinte West are looking for volunteers to assist with the Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers will deliver hot meals to clients’ doorsteps on weekdays. A flexible shift is available, whether it is once a week or once a month, a schedule will be made that works for you. You must have your own vehicle.
*Numerous Not for Profit agencies are currently seeking volunteers to assist at the Lion’s Club Bingo Hall. Bingos are held in the afternoon and evening seven days a week. Volunteer duties include calling back Bingo’s and assisting with payouts. Training and safety protocols are in place. ALL proceeds go to the not for profits to ensure program delivery and services are maintained in our community.
*Community Living Quinte West is seeking volunteers to help run bi-weekly bingos, take an individual out for coffee, visit with people in their home, help with fundraising events, administrative support and assist with clients’ outings. Orientation and training provided.
*Reaching for Rainbows is seeking volunteers to spend a couple of hours engaged in rewarding and interesting activities with the girls’ activities include playing, reading, singing, preparing and enjoying snacks, listening, playing games and so much more. The afternoon will fly by. Girls grow and thrive as they play, learn and build resiliency and self-confidence.
*The Alternative’s for Women team are looking for community members to assist with Volunteer roles that help to maintain the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packaging donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
*Links to Learning is looking for volunteers to assist children with reading by following a set curriculum, on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. Volunteers should be able to commit to a once weekly session with a child for a period of 6 months minimum. High School students are welcome.
*It’s been a challenging few months at local hospitals with all sorts of illnesses going around, and in many people in need of further support. In these challenging times, volunteers are vital. Not only to help pick up the slack, but offer some comfort to others in stressful times. The auxiliary teams at Belleville, Trenton, and Picton Hospitals are in need of support. There are volunteer positions for all ages, skill levels, and comfort levels. There are volunteer opportunities at the ERs, gift shops, coffee bars and a variety of departments including Mammography and Day Surgery.
Volunteer Information Quinte refers volunteers to more than 275 agencies throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties.
