The Children’s Foundation and a local production company has released the following statement this week
Community Invited to Free Screening of Not Alone — A Powerful New Documentary on Resilience and Connection
The community is invited to a free public screening of Not Alone, an inspiring new local documentary that explores how personal stories of loss, resilience, and hope can unite a community. Free screening made possible by a City of Belleville Arts and Culture Grant on May 8 at 7:00 PM at the Empire Theatre. Tickets must be reserved in advance online through Eventbrite – Not Alone
Created through a collaboration between Eighty Twenty Studio, The Children’s Foundation, and Chandy Davis, Not Alone tells the story of Autumn and Sarah—two young women who discover a profound connection during a chance encounter. Though their life experiences differ, both have endured deep childhood loss. Through their honest and courageous storytelling, the film reveals the universal power of shared struggles and the strength we can find in one another.
In their own words, the film participants shared: “My pain from my past makes my future brighter.” Said Sarah Walker. Autumn Clarke said, “I’m excited to see where my journey leads me. This is just the beginning.”
“We extend our gratitude to Autumn and Sarah for their bravery in sharing their personal stories of overcoming hardship in Not Alone,” said Melanie Cressman, Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation. “We hope that this film serves as an inspiration to young people, illustrating that seeking help is a powerful act of strength that can unlock new opportunities.”
Reflecting on the importance of community, Chandy Davis said: “We all need a positive and supportive community of people around us to navigate the challenges of life. We can’t do it alone. I want people to know it is ok to ask for help. I am trying to be more honest and tell my community of supportive people when I am struggling so they can help me. I think if we support each other then life will be better for us all.”
“We were drawn to this project because of Autumn and Sarah’s remarkable spirits. We felt lucky to walk alongside them and help them amplify their message,” said filmmakers Victor and Jodi Cooper. “We hope the audience will be just as moved by the honesty and vulnerability of these young women as we were.”
CONTENT ADVISORY: Viewers should be aware that this film deals with some challenging topics and mature themes (including, but not limited to: addiction, drug abuse, sexual trauma, death, suicide, and self-harm).
