The MP-elect for the Bay of Quinte bid farewell to his old job as a Belleville councillor this week.
Chris Malette was on the other side of the gallery at the Belleville Council meeting on Monday.
Malette returned to Council for the first time as the new MP-elect, and not a current Ward 1 councillor. Malette has been a Belleville councillor since 2018.
Malette ran for the Liberal party in the recent federal election and beat the Conservative incumbent Ryan Williams.
Belleville Council declared his seat vacant, following his goodbye deputation.
Council has asked staff to come back with a report at the May 26th council meeting. The report is expected to provide council with a list of options moving forward to fill the vacant seat for the remaining term of council. The next municipal election is October 2026.
