Here are the highlights from the Prince Edward County Council meeting held this week.
Mill Pond in Bloomfield:
Council heard a deputation from Barry Turpin and Sarah Soetens who are looking for more ways to generate revenue to help establish a walkway around the Mill Pond in Bloomfield. Council voted unanimously to pass a motion to declare the project one of local significance. The move will allow for tax receipts to be issued for donations. Fundraising continues as the community hopes to not only establish a new walkway, but add seating areas and signs that highlight the wildlife in the area.
Deal with Sandbanks Provincial Park to establish more parking:
*Council has signed off on a new agreement with Sandbanks Provincial Park. There was no debate before the motion passed. The new one-year agreement will allow for Sandbanks to use the parking area around County Road 12. In return, Sandbanks will have to provide off-season access to the park and maintain washrooms year round for residents. Sandbanks will not be allowed to increase capacity at the park. The agreement is eligible to be renewed on a yearly basis for the next three years.
