
May has flown by and so is the time to organize some key events and fundraisers in the Quinte region. If you are looking to mix up your schedule, and meet some new people. Several organizations in the region could use your talents.
Here is the VIQ Update for this week.
*June is Pride Month! The Bay of Quinte Pride team is looking for people to help out on Saturday, June 7th for the Pride Parade and Pride in the Park events. Pride in the Park will take place at West Zwick’s Park. Volunteers are needed to welcome guests, and help sort out logistics.
*Empire Rockfest will take place on Friday, July, 25 and Saturday, July 26 in downtown Belleville. VIQ is once again looking for volunteers to help out each even from 4:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. People are needed to check ID’s, scan tickets, provide directors and stage support. Smart Serve volunteers are also required to sell drink tickets and work at the bar area. People are also needed on Thursday, July 24th before the event to help set up the green screen on the fence.
*Plans are well underway for Canada Day activities in Belleville. The City is looking for volunteer face painters to help out on July 1st. Volunteers would work alongside professional artists.
*The Bay of Quinte Relay For Life will be held on Saturday, June 7th at Trenton High School. Organizers are looking for people to help with registration, activities and set up.
*The Alternatives for Women team is looking for community members to assist with maintaining the programming and buildings. Tasks include childcare, providing transportation within PEC, sorting and packing donations for clients, maintenance around buildings, and assisting with events.
*Trenton Care and Share Foodbank is looking for volunteers to assist with client registration. In this position, you will also be making case by case referrals to external agencies or programs if necessary to support the client. Orientation and training provided.
*Hospice Prince Edward is seeking volunteers to provide support to individuals and their families dealing with a terminal illness, while in their own home or the three-bed hospice. Hospice Prince Edward offers a 30-hour training program to interested individuals. Residential volunteers work alongside the team of health care professionals.
*The Quinte Museum of Natural History in Trenton is looking for volunteers. The team needs people to assist with school programs, workshops, and with events. Orientation and training is provided.
*Community Living Prince Edward is on the hunt for program assistants. Volunteers share common interests with clients. This could be socializing over cooking, music, or a card game. Ideally these placements would be ongoing in regular intervals. Supplies are provided.
*Prince Edward Community Care needs volunteers to help in the Thrift Shop in downtown Picton. Shifts are 3 hours per week 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. No experience is necessary. There are always experienced volunteers on site. Community Care is particularly in need of volunteers to take a shift on Saturdays.
