Belleville Council is welcoming Kelly McCaw back around the horseshoe.
The City has figured out how to fill the vacant seat left behind when Chris Malette assumed the role as the new MP for the Bay of Quinte. He won the Liberal seat in the recent federal election.
Council was presented with two options at the meeting last night, hold a by-election or appoint the next person in line from the last municipal election.
The next person-in-line option was used back in the fall for Tyler Allsopp, when he became the Conservative MPP for the Bay of Quinte. Margaret Seu assumed his seat on Council.
Councillors voted quickly last night in favour of welcoming Kelly McCaw instead of dealing with a by-election, that would cost roughly $200,000. McCaw had a seat in the last Council.
This is the sixth time since 2001, that Belleville Council has appointed a new Councillor during a term.
