There is some good news to share as the county continues to experience pockets of measles.
Dr. Ethan Toumishey, the Deputy Medical of Officer with South East Public Health, provided an update at the Board of Health meeting yesterday.
He noted that the health unit has seen no new measles activity since April 14th. However, data is only up to date until May 15th.
The local health unit has identified 80 measles cases in total since the outbreaks began. Staff note that 78 of the cases were among those who were unvaccinated. One person who was ill came down with pneumonia and required a hospital stay.
Dr. Toumishey added that roughly 97% of residents in Hastings and Prince Edward have received the measles vaccine.
